Argentine icon Diego Maradona will undergo urgent brain surgery after scans revealed a brain bleed.

The 60-year-old was admitted to a hospital in La Plata, Argentina, on Monday after feeling ‘anemic and dehydrated’, with Dr Leopoldo Luque saying at the time that Maradona’s physical health had suffered as he were ‘psychologically unsound’.

His condition was initially not considered life-threatening, with the coronavirus ruled out of the equation, but Argentinian news outlet TyC Sports has since reported that a subcutaneous hematoma was detected during a CT scan on Tuesday. Turns out, that means Maradona will have brain surgery.

Thus, he is being transferred to a clinic in Olivos for the operation, which may last up to six hours.

There’s a terrifying turn of events just hours after Dr. Lok says: “He’s better than yesterday, the idea is to stay. [in hospital] one more day. He is anemic and slightly dehydrated.

“We want to improve his condition as much as possible and for that we need a little more time,” he said while talking to reporters outside the Ipensa clinic.

“Because he sees himself better, he wants to go.

“I told him to wait. He had a good night and he’s in a good mood. We were joking around and we went a little inside the clinic. He’s progressing as we expected,” he said. added.

Maradona, who currently coaches Primera Division outfit Gimnasia de la Plata, was last seen publicly leaving the stadium after overseeing his team’s clash with Petronato on Friday – his 60th birthday.

The Argentine’s latest health scare is just one of many he has endured over the years.

He was hospitalized in January 2019 due to internal bleeding in the abdomen.
