It is Roy Hodgson’s side who have fended off interest to secure the young star’s prized signature, doing so in a deal worth around £16million.

Speaking on the club’s official website, Eze said of the move: “I’m happy, man. It’s been a long process but I’m happy to get it over with and done with. [The deal] Definitely shows them [Palace’s] Believe me – and I want to stay here, I want to play, I want to do as much as I can for this club and it’s a fantastic opportunity.

“As a football club, I think there’s a lot of great players here and it’s a fantastic opportunity for me to come up with these players, connect with them and really progress.

“It’s the position they want me to play, their goals, where they want me to be, where they want me to go, what they want me to be, how they see me fitting into the system… The style of football they want to play. Suits me. It’s perfect for me. It’s a great opportunity and a great place to come.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish added: “Iberichi is a player whose development we have watched closely. We are delighted that he has chosen to sign for us over other clubs who were interested. And we think this is the right club for him. Continue to develop him.

“With our academy recently achieving Category 1 status, it further underlines our focus on youth as we look to strengthen and improve our position as a Premier League club.”
