Erik ten Hague has hailed the ‘winning attitude’ that Casemiro and Raphael Varane have brought to Manchester United.
The pair were again instrumental as Manchester United won the 2022/23 Carabao Cup, with Casemiro opening the scoring in a 2–0 win.
Speaking to Sky Sports about the influential veteran players in his team such as Casemiro, Raphael Varane and David De Gea, Ten Hague said: “Warne, Casemiro, De Gea, they know how to win trophies.
“You need players on the pitch to identify the team, to coach the team, to manage the team. Not just from a tactical point of view, but also from a mental point of view. That’s very important. A winning attitude. That’s what they bring to the dressing room and bring it to the team.”

When told that players have said in interviews that they are already thinking about winning more trophies, ten Hague replied:
“Yes, but first you have to win the first one, and that’s what we did today. I think you get a lot of motivation from that and a lot of confidence that we can do it. [win more trophies].
“I think we’re still at the beginning. [of a project to] Get Man Utd back where they belong and that is winning trophies. This is the first.
“They are good and connected and they challenge each other. It’s a good dressing room. They help each other in difficult moments and it’s great to see.
“The staff has done a great job with the players. The staff and the players are together.”
