Everton manager Frank Lampard was delighted with captain Jordan Pickford’s performance after his heroics earned the Toffees a point in their Merseyside derby draw with Liverpool.
Pickford made some brilliant saves, as did Alisson in the Liverpool goal, during the 0-0 stalemate at Goodison Park, which extended the Toffees’ winless start to the Premier League to six games.
But there were plenty of positives for Lampard to take from a display that showed genuine passion and unity from his side, which frustrated and pressed Liverpool for much of the afternoon and could easily have won the game themselves.
“A fantastic game – very intense, good quality, lots of chances for both teams and incredible performances from both goalkeepers,” Lampard told the BBC’s Match of the Day.
“This is my first experience of Derby Day at Goodison and the atmosphere was fantastic and the passion and work of our players. Liverpool are a great team and we are at the start of the process, we are working hard, with passion and hard work. And the quality and the better we play, the better we will be.

Lampard explained that Everton’s game plan was to press aggressively when Liverpool were out of possession, and he expressed his confidence that positive results would come for Everton if they continued to play like that.
He added: “We wanted to be more aggressive in our approach off the ball, we didn’t want to buckle under their pressure and I thought we did that well but they will outplay you at times. But we stuck to the game. The plan, the desire to stay in the game and create our chances, I’m happy with a point because of the chances they have but I’m very happy with the team and how we’re going.
“Jordan [Pickford] Today there are fingertips on some bits that many keepers don’t get and Alison the same, two top class keepers. I have a lot of faith in Jordan, he is an amazing keeper and we are lucky to have a player of his caliber.
“I think we want more because of the performances, they deserve more, there’s no point talking about things, although the positive side is the way we’re going and the new players – we’re getting better. Going. Certain circumstances don’t always affect the outcome, but you can affect your performance.”
