Rangers have confirmed they have parted ways with manager Giovanni van Bronkhorst.
Appointed as Steven Gerrard’s replacement on 18 November 2021, Van Bronkhorst led Rangers to the Europa League final in his first season but failed to maintain that momentum in the 2022/23 season.
Rangers are currently second in the Scottish Premiership, nine points behind rivals Celtic, while they endured their worst Champions League group stage campaign on record as they were beaten by Ajax, Napoli and Liverpool.
Now, Rangers have confirmed that van Bronkhorst’s time at the club is over.
“Rangers Football Club has today confirmed that it has parted company with manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst,” a statement read. “The Board would like to sincerely thank Geo for all his efforts since his appointment as Manager.
“Arriving at the club a year ago, Gio led the club to a fifth European final and won the Scottish Cup last May. He led the team to the club’s first Champions League qualification in 12 years.
“Unfortunately, results and performance in recent months have not met expectations and the board has today decided to terminate the manager’s contract.
“The search for a new manager is now underway.”
