Leeds United striker Rodrigo has tested positive for the coronavirus

Leeds United’s forward Rodrigo has tested positive for Corona.

The Spaniard was a club record signing in the summer when he joined from Valencia in a £26m deal and has so far scored once in 320 minutes of Premier League action.

Rodrigo was absent for Monday night’s 4-1 defeat by Leicester, and is set to miss Leeds’ trip to Selhurst Park on Saturday after coming into contact with a confirmed case.

The 29-year-old has since revealed on his official Instagram page that he too has tested positive for the virus.

He wrote: “Unfortunately I have tested positive for covid-19 after being in contact with a family member who was infected without our knowledge.

“As per protocol, I will self-isolate and miss the game with Crystal Palace.

“My family and I are both feeling great, we’re lucky enough to feel healthy and we’re keeping a positive attitude. I’ll be supporting Leeds and the Spanish national team from home as a supporter and I will be back on the pitch soon.

“Thank you to everyone who has shown concern,” he concluded.

As such, a return to Leeds’ clash with Arsenal on November 22 appears likely.

Rodrigo must remain in isolation for 10 days from the date of the positive result before returning to training or matches. This will mean he can train well independently before taking on Mikel Arteta’s Gunners.

Meanwhile, the Premier League has confirmed four positive cases in the latest round of testing.

It is their efficient and sophisticated testing system that will allow English top-flight football to continue despite the UK entering its second nationwide lockdown for four weeks from midnight on Thursday.
