Luis Suarez held talks with Inter Miami as Barcelona edge closer to exit

Luis Suarez has held talks with MLS franchise Inter Miami after being told he is not wanted by Barcelona.

The Uruguayan suffered an injury-plagued 2019/2020 campaign, with knee surgery ruling him out for several months at the start of the year. His season ended with a humiliating 8-2 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich and Suarez is one of many players who are likely to move on from the Blaugrana as a result of the humiliating result.

A possible destination could be David Beckham-backed MLS franchise Inter Miami. According to The Independent, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star is looking to make another marquee signing after already bringing Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi to the club.

Suarez could fit the bill and the 33-year-old is understood to have already held talks with the Herons, who are interested in securing a long-term deal. The former Liverpool man would prefer to stay in Europe but Miami are confident they can offer more money than any interested club, especially with concerns about his fitness.

Suarez is believed to be currently on wages of around €450,000-a-week and would likely have to accept a pay cut to get out of Barca.

Paris Saint-Germain are another side said to be interested. The move will see the MSN forward line that caused havoc in Catalonia – with only Kylian Mbappé to replace Lionel Messi, who seems to be engineering his own way out of Barcelona.

Messi informed Barca of his intention to leave this summer on Wednesday, causing a stir on social media. Manchester City have come in early although there is controversy over whether La Pulga will be able to leave on a free transfer.

Although his Barcelona contract has a break clause at the end of each campaign, the club argued that it expired in June and would demand a hefty fee of €222m for his services. Messi, on the other hand, feels that the extension to the 2019/20 season gives him more flexibility when it comes to exercising the option to leave.
