Thiago Silva set to sign new Chelsea deal

Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva has confirmed that he is ready to sign a new contract with Chelsea.

90 Minutes revealed last month that terms had been agreed on a new contract for the experienced Brazilian, who is now working out the final details of a deal that will see him stay at Stamford Bridge for another 12 months.

“We’re talking about it, maybe in the next few days everything will be done,” the 38-year-old confirmed to ESPN.

“My intention, and the club’s, is to stay together. I know the club needs me at the moment. I’m able to help here, they’re young players. I know that, from my experience, I can help the club. I can help in this process of reconstruction, I am here for it, ready to do so, however, I know that my responsibility is great.”

Silva also spoke about the departure of midfielder Jorginho, who moved to the capital to sign for rivals Arsenal on deadline day.

“I know we have a lot of work ahead of us, we lost one of our great leaders in the locker room, Jorginho, a guy who said a lot, there will be a gap, but we have to move on,” he said. Admitted. “We didn’t expect him to leave, it just happened. Make up for his absence as best we can.”

“[It was] For a direct competitor. But that’s football stuff, it happens. He would prefer to live in England, as his family is nearby. These are things we have no control over, but we have to understand the player’s side as well.”
