Tottenham in ‘advanced talks’ on Danny Rose’s move to Genoa

Tottenham Hotspur full-back Danny Rose is close to a move to Serie A club Genoa, with talks now described as ‘advanced’. His expected departure would result in a large contract being removed from the wage bill as Spurs prepared to bring in Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale.

Rose has completely fallen out of favor with Spurs, the club he joined at 17, without even being assigned a new squad number for the 2020/21 season.

The 30-year-old’s frustration at a lack of opportunities was highlighted in Amazon Prime’s All or Nothing series and he finished last season on loan at Newcastle.

The Daily Mirror writes that talks between Spurs and Genoa are ongoing and at an ‘advanced’ stage. The deal is more likely to be permanent due to the fact that Rose’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season. Thus, Spurs can collect a small transfer fee.

Rose became a first-team regular at Spurs in 2013 after a successful loan spell at Sunderland and previously burst onto the scene as a teenager when he scored a brace on his debut against Arsenal.

He has played 26 Premier League games as recently as 2018/19, his second most in the league in a single season for Spurs, but has fallen rapidly out of favor over the past 12 months. .

Danny Rose has given Tottenham thirteen years of service and they didn’t even have to tell him he wouldn’t be given a squad number, having been made to do pre-season with the youth team.

Loyalty doesn’t exist in football, the game really stinks at times.

The Athletic revealed earlier this week that Rose had been told he had no future at Tottenham after he returned to the club from his loan spell at Newcastle and has been training with the under-23 squad.

However, he does not realize that he has been stripped of his number three shirt, the jersey he has occupied since 2012, and is not being given a first-hand, new one by the club. Instead, he was told about it by a friend who saw the news on television.
